How much does a new well cost?
The cost of a new well is largely dependent on the number of feet drilled and casing installed. We can provide an estimate based on neighboring wells, but the final cost will be determined by the specific construction of your well.
How much does it cost for pump installation?
The cost of a pumping system is dependent on the depth of the well, which determines the size of pump and the amount of water pipe and wiring. The distance of the well to the pressure tank will determine if additional water pipe, wiring, and trenching is required.
Why am I getting sand and/or cloudy water in my new well?
Most wells in the Keweenaw are rock wells, which cannot be fitted with a screen, and therefore produce sand initially or if pumped too hard. Pump the the well slowly (about ½ gallon per minute) until the water clears. Siirtola Well can assist in developing the well or provide you with specific instructions to clear it on your own. Screened wells can produce cloudy water, called turbidity, initially until the well stabilizes after regular use. Low-producing wells can take days, weeks or even months to clear of sand and turbidity.
Why is my water cloudy now that I returned by seasonal camp (cabin, cottage, or second home)?
You may have a low-producing well, and with infrequent use the static water level may have risen. Water that flows into cracks and crevices higher in the borehole can pull sand, silt or clay into the well after regular use resumes. Pump the well slowly (about ½ gallon per minute) until the water clears.
Why am I getting sand in my water after not having that problem before?
Has water demand increased recently? Have you been watering your lawn or garden, or did you fill a pool? Are there more people in the house taking more showers? Is there a water leak, such as a toilet tank not always shutting it off? Increased demand for water can lower the static water level and place stress on the aquifer or water bearing rock. Attempt to conserve water, or consider water storage tanks to accommodate peak demand.
Why does my pump constantly run?
If all faucets are off, a continually running pump may indicate a leak in the supply line, however, in most service calls we find the problem is a leaking toilet tank or leaking hose bib.
